The History of Seed Developments
Seed Developments was founded as a family business in 1965, when Dr Monty Rayne invented an innovative way of embedding seed into tissue paper to facilitate sowing. Following Dr Rayne’s retirement in 1995, the business was jointly taken over by Pieterpikzonen BV, a leading Dutch seed company, and Richard and Bella Flood. They successfully grew and ran the business over the next 15 years, relocating in 2009 to a large, modern facility, near Bridgwater in Somerset, which could cater for the rapid expansion.
In April 2012, the business was acquired by Andrew Gould, together with three private investors. The corporate strategy is to continue the growth of the business through increased public awareness of our products and ongoing innovation in new product lines and manufacturing technology.
With over five decades of growth, Seed Developments has developed an outstanding international reputation as the global market leader for supplying seed tapes and related pre-sown seed products.
In early 2018, Seed Developments launched the Simple Sowing brand as a new home for their promotional seed division. Simple Sowing is the result of Seed Developments’ ongoing commitment to deliver bespoke, cost-effective promotional product solutions, which inspire customers and promote a healthy environment.
