Established
Seed Developments is built on over 50 years of experience. We have combined our deep knowledge of the seed industry with the latest manufacturing, printing and marketing technology to deliver an end product which is tried-and-tested, yet brilliantly original every time.
Environmentally Conscious
Our commitment to the environment is very simple: we use only 100% bio-degradable products. We promote a healthy and sustainable ecosystem and are proud to be fully certified by The Soil Association to work in all aspects of Organic seed.
Educational
A very important part of building a sustainable environment is teaching the future generations how to properly manage and maintain it. Our products are fun, hands-on and memorable, inspiring the next generation of budding growers to embrace and share our passion for plants.
The History of Seed Developments
Seed Developments was founded as a family business in 1965, when Dr Monty Rayne invented an innovative way of embedding seed into tissue paper to facilitate sowing. Following Dr Rayne’s retirement in 1995, the business was jointly taken over by Pieterpikzonen BV, a leading Dutch seed company, and Richard and Bella Flood. They successfully grew and ran the business over the next 15 years, relocating in 2009 to a large, modern facility, near Bridgwater in Somerset, which could cater for the rapid expansion being experienced.
In April 2012, the business was acquired by Andrew Gould, together with three private investors. The corporate strategy is to continue the growth of the business through increased public awareness of our products and ongoing innovation in new product lines and manufacturing technology.
With over five decades of growth, Seed Developments has developed an outstanding international reputation as the global market leader for supplying seed tapes and related pre-sown seed products.
The Future
Seed Developments has proved itself over the years to be very flexible re ever-changing business needs both in terms of its product development and its ability to set up new logistic delivery systems for customers both in Europe following Brexit and more recently in USA in response to the changing trading environment with tariffs and similar international trading developments in general. This adaptability continues to be our main focus both in terms of our products and the range thereof but also in terms of their manufacture with continued on-going investment into the latest technologies which enable us to supply innovative, state-of-the-art products that make ‘growing from seed’ easier and more practical whilst also promoting a healthy environment.
