The history of Seed Developments
started off as a family business in 1966 when Dr Monty Rayne invented an innovative way of embedding seed into tissue paper to facilitate sowing. On Dr Rayne’s retirement in 1995, the business was jointly taken over by Pieterpikzonen BV, a leading Dutch seed company, and Richard and Bella Flood. They successfully grew and ran the business over the next 15 years, relocating in 2009 to a large modern factory, with expansion potential, near Bridgwater in Somerset.
With almost five decades of growth, Seed Developments has developed an outstanding international reputation as the global market leader for supplying seed tapes and related pre-sown products.
The business was acquired in April 2012 by Andrew Gould together with three private investors. The corporate strategy is to continue the growth of the business through increased public awareness of our products and ongoing innovation in new product lines and manufacturing technology.
